Umahi Swallows His Dropped Spit; Prefers Northern Presidential Candidate

FROM OUR POLITICAL DESK (ABUJA)

The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Engr. David Nweze Umahi is said to have swallowed his dropped spit after boasting of picking the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), judging from his self-acclaimed records of having performed above board as the governor of the Salt State.

Some of the governor’s support groups who spoke to our correspondent in Abuja at the weekend under the condition of anonymity said they were shocked when the news of Dave Umahi, stepping down for Ahmad Lawan, incumbent Nigerian Senate President for the party’s presidential ticket was made known to them.

His decision, it was authoritatively gathered came when 11 APC governors from the North, led a delegation to President Muhammadu Buhari to seek his support to cede power to a Southern candidate, where aspirants like Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi former Minister of Science, Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, and former Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio are already waiting.

Governor Umahi who has not hidden his disdain for other zones in the South, contesting for the slot outside the South East, contended that instead of their party’s candidate would emerge from either the South West or South-South, power should better remain in the North.

The governor who was a guest on the Arise TV indicated that he is making good his words by ditching his ambition and throwing his weight behind Lawan, who announced his candidature only a few weeks ago.
