 SASA Acid Baths: Public Demands Justice; Calls for Market Closure

Members of the public have demanded for Justice for the four, out of the seven staff of the Anambra Anti-Touting Squad, SASA allegedly bathed with acid by some traders at the Ogbo Ogwu (Pharmaceutical) market last Friday, describing the act as barbaric and ungodly.

It will be recalled that the hoodlums known as touts had taken over the major roads, streets and markets in the state for ages and this gave birth to SASA, now hunting the touts around the state, Ogbo Ogwu (Pharmaceutical) market inclusive but instead of the traders to assist SASA men, they allegedly attacked and batted the government agents with acid.

Speaking with 247thirdeye.com roving crew in Onitsha yesterday, some people who came from outside the state for business under the condition of anonymous, condemned the action, noting that since the coming on board of the Anti-Touting Squad, people who come to buy goods in Anambra State, particularly Onitsha always have a relaxed minds in coming to the state for business transaction.

“We read with utmost dismay that the staff of SASA were bathed with acid by the traders in Ogbo Ogwu and I, (names withheld) on behalf of all of us here (pointing at a large crowd), calls on the Executive Governor of the State to stop at nothing in bringing all the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.

“We also learnt that the market local security made frantic efforts to save tge lives of tge Anti-Touting men and in their bid to scare the traders away from been lynched, one of the traders was killed by a stray bullet and one wonders why the state government did not close the market even for one day.” They said.

Recounting their ordeal in the hands of the traders, one of the acid victims, a – 27- year Samuel Okwuchi said; “we were in our office when we got distressed calls that our men are been attacked by the traders at the Ogbo Ogwu, myself and other staff were drafted to go and rescue them. Before we could get to the market, there were haevy crowd, immediately we stepped into the market unarmed, aimed at ascertaining what was the issue, some of the traders brought plastic buckets and poured same on our members four out of the numbers that were there were seriously affected.” The victim, on behalf the other three stated.

When contacted, the Chairman, Progressive Science Union, PSU, Ogbo Ogwu market, Onitsha, Chief Noel  Nwosu distanced  his section of the market from the alleged act, noting that the Ogbo Ogwu (Pharmaceuticals) market should be questioned on the drastic act, with emphasis that the fact they are at the get way of the market from the express road made people to believe that they are responsible for the act.
