PDP Boss Assures Members of Transparent Congress

LYRIC BAHM, ABUJA

Worried by complaints from members who fear that party congresses are usually manipulated to favour unpopular candidates, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Federal Capital Territory [FCT], Mr. Zaka D. Sunday has assured that nobody will be allowed to manipulate the congress or subvert due democratic processes in the primary election expected to take place soon.

Zaka Sunday remarked that concerns raised by aspirants to elective positions were valid and have been noted to be addressed and prevented by the party leadership.

He assured in an interview that the party structure would be thoroughly reorganized after proper consultation with members to make it more effective in winning elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

In the PDP, particularly in the FCT, the year is a year of politicking where councillorship and chairmanship aspirants will be picked to contest elections for candidates to emerge.

Consultations are ongoing among those aspiring to contest elective positions. I sincerely believe that the party is for the people and as chairman; I will ensure that the will of the people prevails under my watch.  Delegates will produce candidates and candidate will emerge through a transparent electoral process.

Nobody will be allowed to manipulate the process or impose candidates on the party for any position under my watch as PDP chairman in the FCT. This i assure,” he said.

On youth participation in the congress, the chairman said that councillorship positions have been reserved for them and added that they would be encouraged to vie for the positions without fear of intimidation.

In my office, I have also created a youth friendly free access for the youth and their leaders see me whenever they choose to interact with us sp that we can come up with strategies and solutions on how ro engage the youth to move the party forward before they engage us,” he remarked.
