 Owelle-Aja Obosi Elects New Executives

OIwelle-Aja Layout in Obosi, Idemili North Council Area of Anambra State, few days ago elected Chief Richard Oforekwe, as it’s new Chairman shouldered to pilot the affairs of the state’s most erosion-prone layout for the next three (3) years.

Oforekwe polled 86 votes to floor the incumbent, Chief Edwin Molokwu who garnered 80 votes to come to the second position as Chief Richard Oforekwe forestall  the incumbent from making his second term in office ambition.

Also, Mr. Uche Otioreh (a.k.a. Bishop)was elected the Vice-Chairman while Mr. Abuchi Kpadouwa was unanimously elected the 1st Vice Chairman, having beaten their respective rivals with small margins 

Other elected officers were Ezenwa Daniel, who was elected as General Secretary, Mr. Victor Okpara clinched the post of Assistant Secretary, and Mr. Kelechi Oguamah was elected financial secretary.


Also, Mr. Ifeanyi Onwukwe won the post of treasurer, and Mr. Ilechukwu Ezenwa (a.k.a. Ikegod) was elected Public Relations Officer, PRO while. Mr. Uche Umeh (a.k.a. Canter) was elected Chief Provost. 

Okechukwu Anyika was duly elected as Provost 11 and Mr. Kingsley Umoke picked the position of Welfare during the election that accredited the total number of 165 landlords of the layout.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, who holds a Chieftaincy title as Aka Ekpuchi -Onwa 1 of Akpo,  said the elected officers of Owelle-Aja Layout are going to work closely with the state government to help nip the flood ravaging the layout in the bud as the landlords and their tenants cannot wage the flood menace alone.

The new Chairman, popularly known as Papa Ito by his admires added that his administration will galvanizevanize the people of the layout for sustainable peace and progress and thanked his people for electing him and his team to pilot the affairs of the layout for the next three years.

He urged them to support his administration in the task to move the Owelle-Aja Layout forward even as he described the election as free, fair, and peaceful, lauding the massiveness of turnout.

“So I want to thank the Owelle-Aja Layout for the confidence they imposed in me and other members of the new executive team. We will focus on peace building of our layout and work assiduously for our Layout development, and provision of social projects.

“Youth cultism is a serious menace across Anambra State, and we will work with the traditional ruler of Obosi ancient kingdom, His Majesty, Igwe Chidubem Iweka 111, Eze Obosi, state government, and security agencies to tackle insecurity and cultism among youths (if found within Owelle-Aja Layout),” he said.

Interestingly speaking, the election committee had bound both the loser and the winner of the Chairmanship position in an agreement to accept the outcome of the election in good faith even as the loser congratulated the elected Chairman and the electorate, as well as the election umpire for their peaceful conduct.

“The election is a victory for our Layout. It is peaceful and the people have spoken. For me, I will go back and prepare for next time.“I call on the elected officers to entrench peace and fight insecurity in Owelle-Aja Layout, we must rally round this team and ensure they succeed in the task we have put in their hands,” Chief Edwin Molokwu stated.

On his part, the Chairman of Obosi Urban, Chief Emeka Asomonye had on his pre-election speech, called on both the aspirants and the electorate, to conduct themselves in a manner that would speak for whom they are and assure the security of lives and property of the people of the area during the election. Chief Asomonye who was particularly elated with the orderliness and peacefulness of the process as against what obtained in the past, congratulated the new team and urged them to see their emergence as a call to duty.

According to him, they must serve with diligence and commitment as well as network with every progressive partner to justify the trust that was rinsed in them.

Speaking on the conduct of the election, the Chairman, Owelle-Aja Layout Electoral Committee Envg. James Eke called on other communities going into the election to emulate the exemplary way Owelle-Aja Layout Landlords conducted theirs.

Envg. James Eke who spoke on behalf of other members of his Committee said they were satisfied with the transparent and peaceful exercise and would report back the account of their stewardship to their association.
