Over N50M, Damages: Cargo Company Holds GUO on Throat

FROM OUR NEWS DESK (LAGOS)

Leaked information from the Chambers of Otogbolu I. Joseph & Co(Chido Cargo Logistics Nig. Ltd’s Counsel ) made it paramount that the Cargo company is currently on the throat of Mr. Maduaburochukwu Okeke as they are making an arrangement, aimed at compelling GUO transport company to pay them the sum of Five million, one hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N5,150.000.00) only as damages the cargo truck he allegedly seized incurred within the space of about three months plus.

Recall that on October 2nd, 2022, or thereabouts,  Mr. Maduaburochukwu Okeke, (one of the sons of a transport magnet, Godwin Ugochukwu Okeke), had allegedly turned himself demigod by unlawfully seizing a cargo truck with Registration Number: XRD 680 YF, belonging to Chido Cargo Logistics in GUO Maza Maza office in Lagos without minding that the said truck has a commercial value of Five hundred thousand Naira (M500.000) only, daily.

According to the leaked information, Mr. Maduaburochukwu had allegedly ordered the seizure of the said truck on October 2nd last year and released it on December 23rd after serious media and legal battles, and when eventually released, it was learned that lots of damage(s) were inflated on the said cargo truck.

On why the cargo truck was seized, it was gathered authoritatively that the driver of the cargo truck, Uche Ezeanochie was one of the senior drivers with the GUO but due to alleged manhandling of the drivers’ welfare since the retirement of Chief Godwin Ugochukwu Okeke who handed over to his son (Maduaburochukwu), majority of the drivers of the transport magnet dumped their employment on alleged high-handedness of the management cader under the supervision of Mr.  Maduaburochukwu Okeke even as some of the drivers who spoke to 247thirdeye.com under the condition of anonymity complained bitterly about subjecting them into slavery by the present management of the GUO.

On why he dumped GUO and secured employment with Chido Cargo Logistics, Mr. Uche Ezeanovhie said; “I served GUO for over twenty-five years and I never had an accident.  But when the new management came on board, drivers started seeing hell, based on the way they are treating us, I decided to give up the job after reporting to the man who employed me. I later secured a job with Chido Cargo Logistics and on one of my trips to Lagos, having nothing at the back of my mind, I parked my truck at the office of GUO at Maza Maza.

“When I wanted to drive out on a fateful day, Maduaburochukwu, to my chagrin, through Abada ordered his Police personnel attached to him to close the gate and never allow my truck out. When I enquired what was my offence, I was told that I  should go and do a proper handover of my former truck with GUO Motors and get cleared by one Mr. Chike popularly known as Ogidi who is the manager in charge of trucks, after that, they will release my present truck.

“On getting to Onitsha, I was asked to pay the sum of N25,000 for headlamps that got spoiled when I was with GUO Motors, which I did but it is shocking to me that all the efforts I put in search of peace were aborted as the said Mercedes Benz truck belonging to Chidio Cargo Logistics with registration number 680 YF is still under the unlawful custody of  Maduaburochukwu Okeke even after meeting with his directives”. The driver stated.

Lauding the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Lagos State, the Director, of Chido Cargo Logistics, Mr. Idoko Chidozie Collins said he is owing the police Zone 2 gratitude over the role the police played before his truck was released to him. He however urged the police to invoke the law of the land by charging Mr. Maduaburochukwu Okeke to Court should he refuse to pay for the demurrage and other damages done on his truck while in the custody of GUO Motors.

However, efforts to reach Maduaburochukwu Okeke for his reaction hit on a brick wall, including holding this report for weeks, aimed at waiting for him to respond to our calls, which he never picked up nor did he even care to reply to a text message we sent across to him.
