As against the rumour making the rounds that two or more Naval personnel were killed along Onitsha/Owerri Road on Tuesday evening by the rampaging unknown gunmen, investigation conducted by 247thirdeye.com has revealed that only one Naval officer had paid the supreme price in serving his fatherland while three of the unknown gunmen fell to the superior rifles of the Naval personnel who were  manning a checkpoint along the affected road.

An eyewitness who simply gave her name as Ifeoma Udechukwu, a petty trader around the Naval checkpoint Owerri Road, Onitsha, Anambra State said she is one of the people who witnessed the incident that took place on Tuesday evening.

She however stated that the gunmen had arrived the checkpoint in a tinted bullet- proof  black SUV car with registration number: (ABUJA) ABC-424 HM at about 6:25pm and slowed down on getting to the military checkpoint.

Ifeoma Udechukwu handed it down that one of the Naval officers had approached the driver’s corner, demanded to see the occupants of the tinted  black SUV car conveying the gunmen.

While awaiting for the driver to roll down the vehicle glass according to the petty trader, one of the gunmen immediately opened fire, killing the Naval officer instantly while other injured Naval men who sustained minor injuries were rushed to  the hospital and are said to be responding to treatment.

In a swift resistance to the sudden attack by the gunmen who were said to be wearing bullet- proof vests, it was gathered that some Naval personnel who were randomly stationed around the area in a bid to engage the invaders in a retaliation succeeded in killing three of the gunmen.

Other sources told 247thirdeye.com that immediately the gunmen realized that some of their colleagues had been killed by the Naval men, they quickly carried the corpses into their waiting vehicle and sped off to an unknown direction.
