No Crisis in Onitsha Bridgehead Market –Leadership

FROM ECHE OBASI (ONITSHA)

The leadership of the Onitsha Bridgehead Market, Anambra State has stated it categorically that there are no crises nor trouble in the market, noting that the market remains one of the most peaceful business arenas in Anambra State.

Speaking to newsmen on the backdrop of last Tuesday’s publication in one of the national dailies, the leadership of the market said the content in the said publication was the imagination of the writer.

Describing the story which quoted eleven people in the market to had sustained degrees of injury in an alleged leadership scuffle, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the market, Mr. Sunday Obinze flanked by Chief Bede Nwankwo, Donatus Ajanma, Sylvester Ahanonu Chairman, Timber Dealers, Drug Dealers, Power Tools, and Allied Dealers Association respectively that made up the market union, cautioned any person(s) who had planned to cause mayhem in the market as a pretense of making money to rethink and stop threatening the peace of the traders.

While pointing an accusing finger on one Chief Peter Okala whom the leadership of the Bridgehead market alleged is no longer a trader in the market as the architect of the alleged falsehood, Mr. Sunday Obinze maintained that there is no acrimony among the executives of the market to warrant a leadership crisis that will lead to injuring of persons or destruction of properties.

He added that the entire market executives are united and are working tirelessly to develop the market in line with the Anambra State Government policy on markets.

“Said he, “this publication is a tissue of lies and done by Chief Peter Okala to confuse the market so that he will have the opportunity to come inside the market to campaign for a particular governorship candidate against the ruling political party’s opposition.

“We the entire executives had resolved that we will not allow him to come into the market to play politics, his sole aim was to paint the market executives black and create an opportunity to come into the market to the campaign. We are not going to allow him, he has no business coming inside the market to confuse since he is no longer a trader in the market”.
