MTI Seeks Accreditation of Civil Engineering, Computer Science

Metallurgical Training Institute,Onitsha, Anambra State has commenced the process of equipping two of her laboratories following the establishment of Civil Engineering and Computer Science Departments in the Institute.
The Institute is, however, urging relevant authorities to support the gesture as the Computer Science Department has fully been equipped awaiting accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NABTEB).
Pastor Bode Fakuade, Director, Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha told our correspondent yesterday in Onitsha that the school has provided all equipment necessary to run the courses in Computer Science and Civil Engineering , but expressed reservation that beaurecratic bottleneck was hampering the accreditation of the two courses.
Pastor Fakuade who expressed hope for the eventual accreditation of the courses revealed that classrooms, laboratories and structures in the Institute have all been given a face- lift following assistance from the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development who supervises the Institute.
While urging potential students who wish to offer courses in Computer Science or Civil Engineering to exercise patience, the school Director warned that the monotechnic does not tolerate cultism for those who may wish to infiltrate the Institute as students to engage in hooligalism and other anti- social vices .
He added that the school Management was familiar with every student in the school as it was unlike other conventional institutions with large population.”
” I want to tell those who may wish to seek admission in our Institute with ulterior motive to cause confusion or engage in cult activities that MTI, Onitsha is not for them.They should rather go elsewhere.
“We are not like other institutions with a very large population of students.We are very few here and we know every student according to their courses and departments”, he said.

The Institute Director narrated that the school clinic has been refurbished with qualified medical professionals regularly attached to the clinic in event of any health emergency, while serious health challenges are immediately referred to hospitals for prompt medical attention.
When our correspondent visited the Institute yesterday to ascertain the level of preparedness while awaiting accreditation of the two courses, students were seen in their classrooms and laboratories seated far from each other in strict adherence to Covid- 19 Protocols.Some modern technical equipment were also sighted during the visit.
Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha was established in 1977 by the Federal Government in partnership with the then German Government to assist Nigeria in training skilled middle man- power in technology and Steel development.
