The Ebonyi State Government has sounded a serious warning to all landlords who are yet to pay their ground rent and annual rents into the state government coffers to, as a matter of urgency to the needful, stressing that such defaulting landlords are going to face the consequences of their action as enforcement will commence on Tuesday, next week(2nd February 2022).


Stating that all demand notice(s) and grace periods have all elapsed, the government, through the Special Assistant to the Governor on Lands and Survey, Chief Emmanuel Igwe, directed all communities within the urban areas and Abakaliki capital city who are in the habit of collecting ground rent and annual rent to return such funds realized from 1978 till date when the Land Use Act came into force to the state government or face prosecution.


“Henceforth, all landowners within Urban areas and Abakaliki capital territory are to obtain written permission from the Governor before transacting any business on lands..


“Furthermore, no land will be registered at the Ministry of Lands and Survey without evidence of the Governor’s consent as enshrined in the Land Use Act 1978 and Ebonyi State law, 007 of 2020 in Ebonyi State Land Instruments Registration, Filing of Judgement Affecting Land Law, 2020. The State Government went further and is concerned are to please take note and act accordingly.
