Ebonyi: Security Operatives Repel UGM …NSCDC Boss

Security operatives in Ebonyi state yesterday repelled unknown gunmen who evaded Ndufu-Achara community in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi state on early hours on Tuesday.

The gang who were about 10 in number were armed with AK-47 and wore only pants and bousers.

The Ebonyi state commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Mr. Terrumun Gbue dropped this hint at his office in Abakiliki when he received team of Nigeria Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution led by Mrs. Lady Achanya.

But there is no record of any casuality both on the side of the community, the gang and security agencies who repelled them.

“We recorded similar sporadic shooting last two days from these unknown gunmen and today again this morning they came but they were repelled by combined armed team of Police, Civil Defense and Soldiers.

“The unknown gunmen as we were told this morning wore only pants and bousers when they invaded Ndufu-Achara community in Ikwo local. They were heavy armed and were shooting and shutting, we don’t want Ebubeagu. This is not the first time they attack the community with same excuse”, he explained.

The unknown gunmen have previously killed three members of Ebubeagu Security Outfit in the area.

It was learnt that the unknown gunmen have since last year raised their arms in protest for the existence of Ebubeagu Security Outfit in the area.

The first person killed was last year, second was on a younger brother to a journalist name withheld and the third was beheaded recently.

The area has being peaceful until the inuguartion of Ebubeagu Security Outfit.

Gbue said that the Unknown gunmen were repelled by team of police, Civil Defense and Soldiers who were deployed to the area.

He explained that residents in the area have reported similar sporadic shooting by same gang on Sunday.

“We recorded similar sporadic shooting last two days and today again they came but they were repelled by combined armed team of Police, Civil Defense and Soldiers.

“The unknown gunmen as were told by residents in the area we shooting and shutting, we don’t want Ebubeagu. This is the not the first time they attack the community on same reason”, he explained.

Earlier, the leader, of the team Mrs. Achanya said they are in the state for Peace education essentially in those areas where there are conflicts.
