Dubious Credentials, Reign of Innocent Blood, Behind Ndi-Anambra Hatred of Andy Uba

From OSINACHI GODFREY. (AWKA)

There was a collective groan when the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State declared Mr. Andy Uba the winner of their sham governorship primaries. The groan came from the people of Anambra, including Anambra APC. There are many reasons why the people of Anambra would reject Mr. Uba. For decades, Andy Uba and his brothers, Chris Uba, and Ugochukwu Uba have terrorized Anambra, leading to backwardness, economic stagnation, deaths, violence, and lost opportunities for men, women, children, the elderly, and the teeming youth.

It is safe to say that Mr. Andy Uba has a horrible reputation and track record. His extensive academic fraud has been exposed. Back in 2017, it was revealed that he falsified his academic certificates and credentials and that not only does he not have the university degrees he claims to have, he failed all subjects but one in his secondary school certificate exam.

That did not stop him from falsifying his secondary school WAEC result. In the absence of even a decent WAEC result, the people of Anambra are asking themselves why Andy Ubah would even be considered an option in 2021.

Mr. Andy Uba has been indicted in the United States of America, and the United Kingdom for fraud and other criminal activities. The UK government said Andy Uba had been involved with fraud and other criminal activities, and hence he should stay away from the United Kingdom; he has been effectively barred from the UK. He was indicted among other things for smuggling dollars and pounds into the United States and the United Kingdom respectively. Mr. Uba was also the subject of a US investigation into advance fee fraud also known in Nigeria as 419. Mr. Ubah has tried unsuccessfully to get the UK to lift the ban.

Consequently, one of the reasons why Ndi Anambra is skeptical about Mr. Uba’s run for governor is because they are reluctant to have an international persona non grata who has questionable conduct and record as their governor.

Mr. Andy Uba’s antecedents are still fresh in the minds of Anambrarians. A Human Rights Watch report (HTTPS:// www.hrw.org/ reports/2007/ nigeria1007/8.htm) titled “Godfatherism in Anambra State” detailed how Andy Ubah mobilized cult groups to terrorize and unleash violence on innocent men and women in the state during his 2007 run for governor, especially making cultism a problem in the state. It left a sour taste in the mouth of anyone who lived to tell the tale because according to the report by Human Rights Watch, murder was rife, as well as the flow of illegal possession of weapons unleashed by Mr. Andy Ubah.

Right now, Anambrarians are not open to Mr. Andy Ubah as governor or even a candidate because of his penchant to terrorize and unleash violence. The people of Anambra, both old and young do not want him. The same Human Rights Watch report detailed the way and manner Mr. Andy Ubah’s brother, Chris Uba put Anambra under siege during Chris Ngige’s term as governor, including shooting up, blowing up, and burning down the Anambra Government House in Awka. Uba’s other group of thugs staged attacks on several government buildings in the state, also shooting up and blowing them up, and burning them to the ground. 24 Anambra residents were killed during this rampage by the Uba brothers.

In the 2021 gubernatorial election, Ndi Anambra does not want Mr. Andy Ubah; he does not have the support of the people of Anambra. He also does not have the support of APC leaders as they feel he is the wrong person to fly their party’s flag. In addition, Mr. Andy Uba does not enjoy the support of the APC grassroots. Andy Ubah has been trying very hard to nationalize the governor race, something the people of Anambra detest. Upon all his efforts to nationalize the race, he does not have the support of Aso Rock.
