Distance Us from Adopting Okonkwo for Anambra Governorship …Sabbath Churches

From GUEST CORRESPONDENT (AWKA)

The umbrella body of Sabbath Churches in Nigeria known as Sabbath Association of Nigeria (SAN) has denied the report credited to a group called Integrated Religious Council (IRC) that Sabbath Churches in Anambra State and Nigerian Sabbath were among those Churches that have adopted the candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, as their candidate for the governorship election on Saturday.

IRC, said in a statement in Awka, Anambra state signed by the duo of Nze Ferguson Umeh, National President of IRC and Chairman, Anambra State Chapter of The Jews of Nigeria and, Chief Arthur-Regis Odidika, President, Nigeria Jewish Community, that the decision was taken after its General Council meeting in the state

The statement reads: “At a recent General Council meeting of IRC held in Awka, the Anambra State Capital, we examined the place of the Council in the November 6 Governorship election in Anambra state.
“After a painstaking review process, we found Dr. Obiora Okonkwo of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) as the best prepared for the task ahead. We also found his manifesto to contain workable solutions to the myriad problems besetting Anambra State.

However, in a swift reaction, SAN in a statement signed by Rt Rev Abraham OnyeagbavRt Rev Dr RBC Nwankwo and Rev Elisha Esimoneze stated that the leadership of SAN and that of Nigerian Sabbath.did not at any point in time participated in a meeting with the so called IRC where the issue of who to adopt and support for the governroship election in Anambra State on Saturday was discussed.

The SAN officials described the report as a “fraudulent act” by mischief makers to use the name of Sabbath Churches and Nigerian Sabbath to adopt a candidate of a political party for an election without the approval of the leaders of Sabbath Churches adding that those involved in such act are fraudster roving around to extort money from politicians.

The statement reads, “SAN Anambra State chapter was not part of the meeting where a candidate was adopted and as we speak right now, we have not adopted any governorship candidate of any political party for the election on Saturday. However we are ready to go out and participate in voting pending who we decide to vote for. As of now we have not decided who to vote for”
