FROM AFAM ANINU CHIMEZIE, (ONITSHA)

A well-known Onitsha-based businessman and former Vice-Chairman, Ochanja Central Market, Onitsha, Chief Gilbert Anadi((Gistar) has called on the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) not to yield to pressure from some corrupt politicians who are presently being haunted by the cashless policy allegedly intended to curb vote buying in the forthcoming elections in Nigeria.

Chief Anadi who spoke to our correspondent yesterday in Onitsha in telephone chat said that though citizens were having a nightmare due to scarcity of both the old and new naira notes,he affirmed that the policy would afford voters opportunity to vote according to their conscience devoid of monetary inducement.

The former market leader noted that from the body language of some political office holders and candidates in the forthcoming elections were enough evidence to show that they are planning to engage in wild scale vote buying with monies stashed in various Government Houses, private residences and farms.

Chief Anadi disclosed that the sudden turn of such politicians to fight the interest of the masses was suspicious as they had always supported their ruling party and their anti- people policies in the last seven and half years.

He called on the electorate to cast their votes for candidates with clear intentions by considering past political records of such contestants.

However,a security expert in Onitsha North Local Government Area and Operational Commander in the area, Chief Chidi Nwachukwu ( Nwa Dibia) has advised politicians to play according to rules in the forthcoming elections in the country.

Chief Nwachukwu gave the advice yesterday in Onitsha during a political function at Ezechima Primary school Field, Awka Road, Onitsha.

According to the popular vigilante operative,” this is the time for politicians to display maturity and patriotism while conducting themselves in their campaign and proper election.

He advised them to jettison the idea of thuggery and political rascality as the vigilante operatives in Onitsha North Local Government Area with the cooperation of other security agencies were determined to protect lives and property of residents and voters within their jurisdiction.
