Arewa Group Warn against Growing Deficit in Governance

.BY LYRIC BAHM, ABUJA

A coalition of northern socio-political groups has strongly condemned what it described as “a glaring deficit in governance in the country.”

The group warned that the nation has been drifting towards anarchy and it blamed the Federal Government for failing woefully to protect the lives and properties of Nigerian masses in all the states and the Federal Capital Territory.

A spokesman of the coalition, Alhaji Samaila Musa, who is the Director of Strategy and Planning for the group regretted that the security of the nation has worsened lately due to confusion and deficit in governance.

“When there are clear deficits in governance and administration and the authorities fail to do what are needful to protect the people, criminals take advantage of the gaps created to commit crimes. As we are speaking today, there is no sign, except on paper, that the country is governed by anybody. This is why many criminals are taking the laws into their own hands and are enjoying themselves.

Alhaji Musa condemned the attitude of herdsmen who are harassing every community in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT but stated that the quit notice issued to Fulani herdsmen by Oyo State Government will have far-reaching consequences if allowed to remain.

He said a directive which groups an entire ethnic community as bad was faulty and should be reviewed because as with other tribes, there are good Fulani herdsmen whose image are being tarnished by the bad eggs among them.

Samaila Musa urged the Federal Government to ensure that nothing harmful happens to the Fulani population in any part of the country warning that Arewa youths will not accept any excuse or failure on the part of government.
