Anglican Deacons Take Oath of Non-Secret Cults, Homosexuality Membership
From ALPHONSUS NWEZE (ONITSHA)
Nineteen newly ordained deacons of Diocese on the Niger, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, have taken the oath of not belonging to any secret cult and also not being homosexuals/bisexuals.
Taking the oath of allegiance to Christ administered by His Lordship, the Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. (Dr.), Owen Nwokolo, each of the deacons said that; “I confess before God and His Church, that I am not a member of any secret cult”.
They also affirmed that they will never join any secret cult, and that they owe allegiance to no other but Christ and that their loyalty would always be absolute, total, and undivided.
The new ministers of God also declared that before God and His Church, they will not indulge in the practice of homosexuality/bisexual and if after the oath they went ahead to be involved or profess to be one against the teachings of the scriptures, they would bring upon themselves the full wrath of God and they would be subjected to canonical discipline as enshrined in the constitution of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.
Earlier in his sermon, Ven Goddy Iloka, who was the retreatn’t, charged the deacons to see themselves as instruments in the hands of God to transform the society.
He also challenged them to always stand on the side of the truth irrespective of who was involved, noting that it is the only truth that can save man from the depth of sins.
He, however, expressed deep worry over the glamour given to evil and immorality in our today society today and challenged the newly ordained deacons to apply the teachings of the Bible to bring positive change in the psyche and spirit of the people. Present at the elaborate service held at the Basilica of St. Andrew, Odoakpu, Onitsha, were the Igwe Kenneth Orizu 111 of Nnewi, the traditional ruler of Awkuzu, and representatives of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe.
