Anambra: NSCDC Vows to Support Peace Building

 FROM OUR ROVING REPORTER’S (AWKA)
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Anambra State Command has assured the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) a parastatal under Ministry of Foreign Affairs of his Commands’ readiness to  support the efforts of the Institute on peace building in Anambra State.

Commandant Everestus Chimezie Obiyo made the vow today (March 11, 2022) while playing host to a delegation from the institute led by one of the Directors, Mrs. Hephzibah Achanya who were in Anambra State for a Conflict Mitigation and Management Workshop/ Sensitization.

Commandant Obiyo expressed the Corps’ determination and commitment to partner with the Institute for peace and Conflict Resolution in tackling the security challenges in Anambra  State.

“You  will agree with me that issues and cases of conflicts have been on the increase especially in recent times, of which our country has been vulnerable to incessant conflicts which have resulted in unimaginable casualties and human misery, and this has contributed vastly to the  social-economic decline and moral deterioration, therefore we need to spread the message of peace to all nooks and crannies of the Country as vanguards of peace”  he stated.

The NSCDC boss however, affirmed that no conflict is settled outside the dialogue table; as violence in any form, he said is negative and detrimental to sustainable development.

He thereafter, commended the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution for their intervention in  promoting peace, conflicts prevention, management and resolution in Nigeria .

Earlier, Mrs. Hephzibah Achanya, a Director in ICPR told the state Commandant that the institute conducted baseline research on the Omor/ Igbakwu boundary conflict in 2018, and stakeholders analysis in October, 2021  in Anambra State with a view of preferring  lasting solution to the age long conflicts.

Mrs. Achanya also made it clear that the institute is not a boundary demarcation agency but a research think – thank and an intervention agency established to educate, sensitize and  mobilize stakeholders/ the Communities in the conflicts on the need for a sustainable peace.

According to her, the awareness campaign of the Institute  was a demonstration of the institutional commitment to making sure that Nigerians irrespective of any affiliations are protected from those who may not like the country’s unity and oneness.
