 Anambra Collapsed Structures: Market Leadership Seeks Compensation for Victims

The Ochanja Central Market, Onitsha, Anambra State under the leadership of Chief Bonaventure Muo (Omekaodimma
Anaocha) are currently hatching plans to meet with the (Landlord of the market (government of the state), plead for the compensation of the people trapped to death during the collapsed structures in which about ten dead bodies were recovered within the day of the incident to last week Monday; while a few survivors were hospitalized.


Chief Muo while fielding answers to question fromjournalists at the weekend said; “even though our market leadership are urging our landlord (Anambra State Government) to do the needful, our market union is also initiating an internal arrangement to assist those who sustained injuries during the incident and the bereaved families”.

The market boss who expressed regret over the incident, however admitted that six bodies were recovered from the scene of the incident; while few other ones sustained various degrees of injuries.

However, the developer of the collapsed structures, (names withheld) when contacted on phone said he has been sick even before the incident and that he is battling with his health challenges in an undisclosed hospital in Anambra State..

The market boss revealed how the present market leadership has improved the market revenue accruing to the landlord (State government) from about thirty- two million naira annually during the previous administrations to seventy- eight million last year.

He also revealed that those fighting him were those benefitting from the corruption of the past market administrations in which funds accruable to the State were shared among themselves.

“We’ve stopped revenue leakages in the market. In the past funds running into several millions of Naira accruing to the State Government were shared by a few corrupt traders in Ochanja Central Market authority.”

He, however, promised to continue to assist Anambra State Government and Governor Chukwuma Soludo realise his laudable objectives for the State.
