Anambra 2021: Group Persuades Obiora Okonkwo to Rejoin Gubernatorial Race

Ahead of November 6, 2021, gubernatorial election in Anambra State, a group under the auspices of ‘Anambra Rescue Committee’ “ARC” led by Mr. Azubike Anazor (Esq) are persuading Dr. Obiora Okonkwuo to rejoin the race for the governorship position of Anambra state under the platform of any registered political party.

It would be recalled that Dr. Obiora Okonkwuo was one of the foremost governorship aspirants under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party “PDP” but was dropped at the party’s party primary election held at Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka on June 26, 2021.

The 22 people who are the representatives of the group from the 21 local government areas of Anambra State in their communique issued after their meeting a few days ago, which was read by its Chairman, Mr. Azubike Anazor (Esq), described their group as discerning observers of the ongoing political development in the State, which he said that they have it from all indication that the State governorship election slated for November 6, 2021, would not produce a governor that would be acceptable to the people of Anambra state.

“The recent gubernatorial primaries of the major political parties in the state ( PDP, APGA, and APC) have resulted in the imposition of   candidates and manipulations of the electoral process by vested interests actuated, not  by altruistic motives and intentions but by the egregious desire to foist on our dear state a leadership that would serve the interest, not in tune with the wish of our people for good governance”

Continuing, he said “there is palpable confusion suffocating the political landscape, endless litigations and counter litigation, alliances, and misalliance. These litigations and counter litigation may continue to go on and even beyond the November 6, election. This State of affairs, if not arrested now, would compel our people to accept all manner of persons as governor and deputy governor without their requisite critical supports” 

“We decided to intervene to salvage Anambra State from an imminent but inexorable slide and a return of the pre-2003 years of misgovernance and lex administration” 
Mr. Azubike Anazor unequivocally restated that Anambra State needs a credible, competent, and Urbana leader with the capacity, reach a viable program of action and policies, positing that they found these qualities in Dr. Obiora Okonkwuo, adding that they persuading him to re-enter the race for the governorship candidature under any of the registered political party.

The group called on all Anambrarians to unanimously support  Dr. Obiora Okonkwuo irrespective of their political persuasion and membership if Dr. Okonkwuo would accede to their request.
