 Suspect’s Overdue Detention: DPO Threatens Journalist with Death

FROM OUR CRIME DESK (ONITSHA)

A Media practitioner’s intervention over the alleged overdue detention of one Chimaije Igwe by the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) Central Police Station Onitsha, Anambra State CSP Ifeanyi Iburu has attracted the DPO’s threat to deal with the media practitioner cum blogger, (Comrade Nweke Nweke) for darling to peep into the alleged act of the senior police officer, described as unprofessional.

247thirdeye.com gathered authoritatively that the suspect (Chimaije Igwe) who is a vehicle technician had rushed to CPS on April 23rd and reported his encounter with gunmen that accosted him in the evening hours within the justification of the DPO and robbed him of a car he fixed for one of his costumes and made away with it.

According to information available to our news desk, the suspect was allegedly arrested on the 23rd of April 2023, following the counter-report made by the owner of the robbed car to the same office where Chimaije Igwe reported the incident on the day of the unfortunate incident.

Angered by the owner of the car that he never permitted Chimaije Igwe to take his car out from his workshop, the DPO, on hearing this, ordered that the suspect be bundled into the cell perpetually where he was languishing his teeth before the media practitioner’s intervention.

The phase-off between the DPO and the media practitioner, it was learned started when the attention of the DPO was sought through his mobile phone but instead of the DPO addressing the issue with its merits, he allegedly resorted to threats, stating proudly that anybody interested in the case should go and wait in court on any date convenient for the police.

“My offense is that I called the DPO to find out why the suspect was kept perpetually in detention without granting him bail or charging him to court within twenty-four hours as stipulated by the law”.

Instead of the DPO covering his face in shame that he is unable to make his area of jurisdiction safe for its inheritance, he is busy bragging that he has a godfather and nobody has the power to remove him, not even the CP”. Nweke Nweke noted

247thirdeye.com have it on good record that very reliable sureties were provided by the relations of the incarcerated poor young man and despite this, the DPO had bluntly refused to do the needy even as it was also learned that the DPO after ‘improper hands shake’ with his complainant decided to act against the rule of his engagement.

The pen-pusher is however crying to the police authorities and the members of the public to hold the DPO accountable, should anything funny happens to him.

When contacted, the State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochi through text message, which read thus: “Sir, may I bring it before you that one Chimaije Igwe is in CPS cell for the past 10 days now (23/04-02/05/2023) over a case of a car snatched from him by gunmen under gunpoint, the DPO Onitsha refused to release the suspect nor charge him to court”;

On receiving the message, the PPRO immediately copied the accused demigod DPO who quickly called the journalist and warned him to stir clear from his area of jurisdiction or he will pay dearly for his action.
