End to Insecurity: NASS Should Assign Constitutional Roles to Traditional Rulers -APGA Senatorial Candidate; Okays State Police

FROM OUR POLITICAL DESK(OWERRI)

If there’s one person who is so pained and worried at the worsening security situation in the country, It’s Mr. Chyma Anthony, the All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate for Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri zone).

For the Abuja-based constitutional lawyer and development strategist, each new day Nigeria’s investment prospects and economy continue to dwindle due to the seemingly endless insecurity in the land.

As part of the strategies required to end insecurity in Africa’s most populous nation, Barr Chyma Anthony has advised the National Assembly to make haste with the amendment of the nation’s constitutional with a view to assigning specific roles to Traditional Rulers.

The Senator in the waiting who spoke to select journalists Wednesday said the assignment of specific duties to these monarchs under the constitution is needed, now, more than ever before.

According Odiuko Owerri zone, no crime or violent attacks takes place on air or in the vacuum.

“These hoodlums, kidnappers, arsonists, bandits, terrorists, name it, all have take off bases and landing locations.

Whether they take off from Forests and land same place or elsewhere after perpetrating heinous crimes, there are Traditional Rulers in charge of these abodes.

These monarchs are just helpless, and incapable of doing anything on sighting the hoodlums. Sometimes, they abandon their palaces upon being overwhelmed by the terrorist groups.

What then do we do to empower our monarchs to act to save their domains?
The National Assembly must therefore amend the 1999 constitution (as amended) with dispatch to assign specific roles particularly that of security to Traditional Rulers.
They must also thinker with our constitution to approve state police without further delay.

If Ndieze, Obas, Emirs, etc are given duties and budgets in our fiscal appropriations, they will have powers either to confront the criminals or dialogue with them for a cease fire”.

The APGA candidate for Imo East Senatorial District informed that most of the traditional rulers are handy with solutions to insecurity, but can’t do much because they are incapacitated under our laws.

“Sometimes when these Royal Fathers give out suggestions to the government and security agents that could bring solutions, they are not taken seriously by our security operatives, most times they are made scapegoats and vulnerable to attacks.
Some of these monarchs, out of frustration after several failed trials to proffer solutions, unfortunately resort to being part of the conspiracy theories that is fueling insecurity.

For us to tackle insecurity now to save our country, we must tell ourselves the truth.
Those behind the bandits or whatever you call them, must be dictated, the National Assembly must also assign constitutional responsibilities to our Royal fathers instead of having them as mere ceremonial figure heads. Again, NASS must unbundle the current Federal Police structure to allow for state police”.

Barr Chyma Anthony equally used the medium to urge Ndi Owerri zone to vote him come 2023 under the APGA platform which has cock(Oke Okpa) as its logo.
According to Odiuko, a vote for him in 2023, is Yes to a New Nigeria where the yearning and aspirations of all will be reasonably met.
