Umahi’s Militia Commissioned to Assassinate Me; Abia Onyike Cries Out

FROM OUR CRIME DESK (ABAKALIKI)

One of the notable critic of the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Abia Onyike has raised alarm, pointing accusing finger on Governor Dave Umahi of having allegedly sent the South East security outfit, Ebubeagu, Ebonyi State Command to assassinate him in the early hours of today.(Friday 11/03/2022)

According to the one time Commissioner for Information in Ebonyi State, the gunmen suspected to be men of the Ebubeagu stormed his residence located at No 1 Abia Onyike Close, Off Onwe Road, Abakaliki and began shooting at random into his house, leaving shattered windows and perforated walls.

Stating that his house came under heavy bombardments and shootings, which restored to shattering the glass windows and causing damages to sections of his one storey duplex, Abia Onyike said the attempt to send him to ‘thy kingdom come’ by the gunmen may not be far from his his recent praise on a high court decision that sacked Governor Umahi and his Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe.

Describing the judgement of Justice Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja as the greatest legal pronouncement in Nigeria’s political history, Chief Onyike firmly accused Ebubeagu for the attack on his home, while alleging that they were sent by the governor to assassinate him.

“My house in Abakaliki located at No. 1 Abia Onyike Close. Off Onwe Road was attacked this morning from 2-2.45 am,” Onyike said.

“The house came under heavy bombardments and shootings, shattering my glass windows and causing damages to sections of the one storey duplex. People around who saw them said they were EnubeAgu people. More details will come with pictures in the morning.”

“I want to believe that Gov. Umahi sent his Ebubeagu militia to eliminate me and finish off my family just because I expressed my views condemning his dictatorship in the state.

“I call on the security agencies in Ebonyi state to take note of Gov. Umahi’s deadly antics and take urgent steps to secure the state instead of allowing Umahi to use Ebubeagu to terrorise citizens in the state.”

Calls made across to Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the Special Consultant to the Ebonyi state government on security, aimed at ascertaining the level the alleged involvement of Ebubeagu as stated by Chief Abia Onyike as at the press time did not yeiled any fruit as he did not pick his calls.

But when some Journalists contacted the spokesperson for Ebonyi State police command, DSP Loveth Odah, she told Journalists that the command is not aware of the attack and advised Onyike to make a formal report for investigation to be carried out.

DSP Odah assured that if it’s indeed true that Ebubeagu carried out such attack, the culprits will be fished out and punished.

“Nobody is above the law,” she said. “If Ebubeagu is non state outfit complimenting the effort of security agencies in the state, but if any of them goes against the law, such a person will be fished out and punished.”
