National Secretariat Suspends Anambra NUJ Election
FROM OUR ROVING REPORTER (AWKA)
The Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ election scheduled to hold on Friday this week have been suspended by the national body of the Union.
According to a letter from the National Secretariat, addressed to the Chairman/Secretary NUJ, Anambra State Council, dated January 25, 2022, duly signed by the National Assistant Secretary, Comrade Akoerde Opeyemi, the national secretariat said the stoppage of the election became necessary as a result of the Credential Committee appointed by the State Congress to oversee the conduct of the election failed to follow the due process.
The letter read this: “the National Secretariat has directed A STOP on all activities until due processes are followed as clearly stated in Article 6(1) of the NUJ Constitution.
“While we advise the Council and the Credential Committee to be properly guided, you will accept our best wishes, please”: the national body concluded.
Our efforts to speak with the Vice President of NUJ in charge of Zone C (Southeast) Comrade Emma Ifesinachi whom the letter was also copied yielded no result as his number was switched off at the time of filing this report.
But the Credential Committee Chairman, Chief Victor Agusiobo when contacted through his GSM line, said he was in serious meditation, promising to come up with a statement after his meditation with his Creator.
