Fear and anxiety yesterday gripped residents of Idemili North/South Council Areas of Anambra State following the rampaging nature of the unknown gunmen who stormed at different strategic locations in the Council areas non-challenged by the security operatives.


The youthful-looking gun guys who rode in assorted types of utility cars, according to an eyewitness, allegedly abducted a man at Oba-Owerri Road and eventually, killed him and 2 other victims at Eke Nkpor axis while another person was said to be also killed at Akora bus stop in Obosi community.


Confiding on this reporter, another eyewitness account said while the trigger happy youths were descending the Obosi-Awada hill towards the Ezeiweka Road, Awada in Idemili North Council, vigilante group men on hearing the sounds of guns came out from a filling to challenge those shooting but they were violently attacked while one pump-action gun was snatched from them. 


One of the vigilante group personal who sustained a high degree of gunshots, a staff of Ikanda Security Agency was rushed to the hospital due to gunshots he sustained, only for him to be confirmed dead by a medical doctor and his remains have been deposited in the mortuary.


Recall that the unknown gunmen had on two Sundays ago, attacked policemen attached to Awada Police Division where they killed a police Inspector before setting a police patrol van ablaze non+challenged by the police even though Awada police division is a stone throw from the scene of the incident.


Investigation revealed that the unknown gunmen came in different groups as those who displayed at Nkpor are not the ones that operated at Awada layout as they paraded with a Venza and one Siena cars and they came from Eke Nkpor-Ideani-Nnobi highway when some traders were getting set to close for the day’s business.


The. infamous unknown gunmen’s confusion’s operations generated forced everyone in site to scamper for safety, while shop owners quickly locked up and run in every conceivable direction without apparently knowing where to.

The infamous unknown gunmen struck late afternoon Tuesday,28, 20218,2021 at Eke Nkpor market area of Idemili North Council of Anambra state.

No fewer than six persons suspected to be security officers were feared dead when they struck in the village environment.

The men who according to eyewitnesses stormed the area arrived in about two vehicles including a Venza SUV through Obosi village road unto the Nkpor-Ideani- Nnobi Highway late afternoon when most traders were getting set to close for the day.

Displaying openly with black jean trousers and t-shirts with either a gun or machete. Our source said they also bore fresh palm leaves each in their mouths, therefore having pranced gingerly on the highway controlling traffic.

It was also gathered that while displaying, they urged all road users to maintain their move as they were not there for anyone but certain persons.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Ikenga Tochi said he was trying to get the approval of his principal, CP Tony Ofolu to make an official statement on the heartbreaking and unfortunate Tuesday incident.
