Govt. Places Embargo on UCKEMORAN Operations

Following the unwarranted threats to visit Anambra State with revolt and fiscal confrontation by a group known as ‘United Commercial Keke and Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria (UCKEMORAN)’, the state government has made its mind known as the group was on September 21, 2021, locked out of operation throughout the state.

Recall that (UCKEMORAN) members are fingered as members of the outlawed Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB who have been terrorizing road users within Onitsha and its environs and in boomeranging to throw the state into anarchy, the group regrouped in the disguise of tricycle union.

According to a letter from the office of the Hon. Commissioner for Transport, duly autographed by the Hon. Commissioner, Hon. Afam Mbanefo, appropriately addressed to the State Commissioner of Police, copied to other pertinent security operatives in the State, including the Area Commanders, titled: ‘Operations and Activities of (UCKEMORAN) in the State, dated 21st September 2021, and made usable to this platform, the Hon. Commissioner, however, directed the security operatives across the state to clamp down on the faction and make sure they did not operate without the authorization of the state government.

Part of the letter read this: “the attention of the state government has been drawn to the activities and operations of the above-named Association in the State despite the attached Ministry’s directives to them not to operate in the State under any guise pending when the State Executive Council and His Excellency’s recognition to operate in the State.

“Given the foregoing, the Ministry is requesting you to use your good office to stop the activities and operations of the Association in the State”; the letter stated.
