 UGM Crusades in Anambra Community; Police Inspector, 2 Others Pay Supreme Sacrifice

There is pandemonium in Awada Layout Obosi, Idemili North Council Area of Anambra State following the attack on policemen who were on the road for stop and search mission only for the Unknown Gunmen to attack them while one Inspector Ogedemgbe, a tricycle rider, and another citizen lost their lives.


Confiding on 247thirdeye.com,  an eyewitness said the incident occurred at Ukaegbu junction by Eziweka Road, Awada Obosi at about 8.30 this Sunday sunrise while the Awada Police Divisional Headquarters’ Hilux patrol van was also set ablaze by the madcap hoodlums.


According to our implacable source, the unknown gunmen after killing the police Inspector made undisclosed numbers of policemen as ‘take away’, and our correspondent who visited the scene reports that both the Onitsha Area Command, men of the Nigeria Army, and the policemen of the police division were all on the ground as at the time of filing this report.


On why the local vigilante men were not sighted at the scene of the incident, our correspondent gathered that the DPO and the vigilante group men are not having a good working relationship as the DPO has allegedly failed to work in harmony with the local vigilante group men who ought to have been assisting the police in the area of grassroots information cum guard.


“Since the coming on board of the DPO, our vigilant group men have been intimidated, harassed, and treated as if they are not part of the security system of the State. The DPO is not friendly with any of the vigilante group men under his jurisdiction and the issue is hampering the security of lives and properties of the inhabitants of this community and we have before now tried to resolve the issue but the DPO seems to know it all”; the community leader alleged.


On visiting the scene of the incident, it was gathered that the gunmen after killing the policeman, drove their Siena car towards NEPA road, roaming around without any challenge from any security operatives but one of the policemen at the scene of the event under the condition of anonymity, debunked the allegations, noting that the unknown gunmen narrowly escaped after killing of the Inspector and burning down the police patrol van.


When contacted for comment, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Ikenga Tochi said he was yet to get full details of Sunday’s killing of the Police Inspector and burning down the patrol Hilux van even as he professed to reach us back as soon as he is fully abreast with the situation.
