Officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command have been thrown into a mourning mood following the gruesome murder of three operatives serving in the Command by yet-to-be-identified gunmen even as the video of the ungodly act has gone viral on social media.

However, the State Police Command has condemned the killing of their operatives at Umunze, headquarters of Orumba South Local Government Area of the State

The viral social media video monitored by Thirdeye247.com showed that the fallen operatives were Mobile Policemen attached to the 29 PMF and 54 PMF Umunze respectively.

An eyewitness account revealed that the gunmen drove to the Nsogwu village of the town and shot the policemen on duty. It was gathered that policemen attempted to escape into a nearby compound, but they met their untimely death. The gunmen, it was learned, made away with the rifles and uniforms of the Police operatives before escaping in their waiting car.

An incident who pleaded anonymity while reacting to the ungodly act said: “The worst has happened in Umunze just now. The security men at that checkpoint at Nsogwu have been attacked. Information has it that three of the officers were gunned down. Umunze has been a war zone now!” he said.

Reacting to the attack, the State  Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu described it as an unfortunate incident.

The PPRO also explained that the Command’s reinforcement teams were already in the area.

“It is an unfortunate incident and is part of the highest price security officers pay in serving the nation, but the Police Command is not deterred by this development.

“The reinforcements teams are already in the area and the manhunt for the assailants is ongoing while joint security patrols have been intensified in the area,” DSP Ikenca added.
